Factory mats are shaped to the footwell and usually have a retention post or a clip so that they cannot slide under the pedals.
Mats are replaced when the heel pad has worn through, when a spill has stained them beyond cleaning, or when a universal mat has been fitted and the original retention posts are no longer used. The safety point is the retention: a loose mat that slides forward can jam a pedal, which is why factory mats are shaped and anchored rather than flat.
Match by position and by model year. A mat set for a vehicle with a third row is different from a two-row set, and the retention post layout changes between model years. Colour from the trim code. Check whether the listing is for a single mat or a complete set before ordering.
