An ashtray is replaced when the lid will not latch, when the insert has been lost, or when the housing has cracked. On vehicles where the ashtray is part of the console trim, replacing it usually means removing the console surround, so it is worth checking the mounting method before ordering.
Match by position: front console, rear console or door-mounted, and whether the vehicle has the smoker's package. The dimensions of the housing decide whether an insert will fit, and a rear ashtray is a different part from a front one even where they look similar.
