Knee Bolsters

Knee bolsters are the padded panels below the instrument panel that protect the driver and passenger knees in a frontal impact, or the side bolsters on a sport seat cushion.

Buying guide: Knee Bolsters

This group covers the bolster pad, the bolster trim and the mounting brackets. On many vehicles the knee bolster also carries the lower dash panel and the fuse access cover.

These parts are replaced after a collision repair, when the pad has been cut or scuffed, or when an aftermarket accessory has left screw holes behind. Because the bolster sits in the occupant protection zone, a replacement must be the correct part for the model: a bolster from a different trim level may not have the same crush structure or the same mounting to the dash frame.

Colour and texture matter more than usual here because the bolster sits directly in the driver's line of sight at knee height. Order by trim code, and check whether the vehicle has a knee airbag, which changes both the bolster and its fixings on many models.
