They are listed by position, so a listing covers either the cushion, the backrest, or the pair, and either the driver or passenger side. The material can be cloth, leather, leatherette or a combination with a perforated centre panel on ventilated seats.
A cover normally needs replacing when the outer bolster has worn through, when a seam has split, when a heated seat element has burned a mark into the surface, or when sun damage has hardened the leather until it cracks. Because the cover is hog-ringed or clipped to the foam beneath, the foam should be inspected at the same time: a collapsed pad will destroy a new cover within months.
Ordering the correct cover depends on the trim code and the seat type. Two covers that look the same in a photograph can differ by whether the seat is heated, by where the side airbag seam sits, and by the presence of a lumbar dial cut-out. Check the part number on the label under the seat, or match it against the VIN, rather than ordering by the colour you see on screen.
