Buying guide: Seat Foam & Pads

The listings include cushion pads, backrest pads, lumbar support pads and the thin felt or non-woven layers that separate foam from frame. A pad is a shaped moulded part, not a sheet of generic foam, so the part number encodes the seat type and the trim level.

Foam collapses gradually and then suddenly: the outer bolster flattens, the driver sits lower and to one side, and the cover above it starts to wrinkle and then tears. A heated seat whose element has failed will also leave a hard, discoloured patch in the pad. Replacing the foam together with the cover restores the original shape; replacing the cover alone leaves the new upholstery sitting on a collapsed base.

Confirm the seat type before ordering. A sport bolster pad is thicker at the sides than a standard pad, and a power seat pad has cut-outs for the motor and the wiring harness that a manual pad does not. The listing photos show the moulded profile, which is the quickest way to check that you have the right shape.
