They carry the switch panel on power seats and the lever cut-outs on manual seats. A shield is a trim piece rather than a structural part, but it is the piece most often scuffed or cracked in daily use.
The failures are cosmetic and mechanical: the mounting tabs snap off, the panel works loose and rattles, the switch bezel cracks, or the shield discolours. Because the shield covers the track, a loose shield can also snag the seat belt or interfere with the wiring that runs to the seat module.
Order by side and by seat type. A shield for a power seat has switch apertures that a manual shield does not, and the driver and passenger sides are different parts. Match the colour code from the trim label; a shield in the wrong shade is immediately visible against the carpet and the seat base.
